Organic Gardening Classes with Harlan Holmes

This series of 3-hour lectures on 4 successive Saturday mornings in October will teach the beginner and the intermediate gardener everything about organic gardening for home consumption.   Harlan Holmes, local resident and long-time high school teacher, is practical, down-to-earth, and successful.  He has broken down gardening into a series of useful techniques that neither trivializes the complexity of gardening nor overwhelms the student with data.  As he says, he will show you how to “think like plants.”

The 12-hour course includes the following topics:  getting started, site considerations, soil and fertilizing organically, seed planting schedules, indoor seed starting,  seed starting materials, watering, organic pest control, and crop rotation.  CFACE members who attended his spring 3-hour session on pest management were so enthusiastic that they are hosting the whole course this fall at West Grove Meeting (153 Harmony Road, West Grove 19390).

Reforestation tree plantings

Reforestation Project

Mike Connors helps CFACE volunteers plant 400 trees in a reforestation project on West London Grove on land owned by SECCRA that will eventually be passed on to London Grove Township.  Funding for the trees came from the White Clay Wild and Scenic program which is supported by the National Park Service. CFACE, an environmental non-profit developed the project with SECCRA and London Grove Township and will oversee the long range management and additional tree plantings for the area.
