CFACE is hosting the following outreach events that are designed to give participants information for preserving our agricultural operations, and for protecting the character of the area. A subtext for every event is the opportunity to meet with our neighbors: The more we share as neighbors, the more involvement we will have in what happens to our land.

Preservation of Agricultural Operations:

  •     Financial Challenges of Working Farms- December 9 – Jay Clark, an attorney and accountant, made a short presentation on Estate Planning for Farm Families. He focused on the tools available to transfer land and the farm from one generation to the next.   Then  Roger Rohrer, a farmer and lender for Fulton Bank, described the benefits of agricultural easements in fiscal planning.  – Sponsors include the Brandywine Conservancy, S.A.V.E., and CFACE. The presentation was held at the  Chatham United Methodist Church at 3306 Gap Newport Pike (Rt 41) in Chatham. click here to view a summary of the meeting.

  •     Farmland Awareness Tours- CFACE has organized tours of four area farm operations. On Saturday, January 23, we toured the dairy operation at the Lloyd farm on Lloyd Road, then move down to Route 841 to visit Lew Wilkinson’s crop raising and combine operation. On Saturday the 8th of May, our group will start at CP Yeatman and sons on Woodview Road for an introduction to the mushroom production and end with a driving tour of the Walmoore Dairy operation in a couple operations. Contact us for reservations at wickwill@aol.com. To view pictures and videos of the tours click here.

Protection of the Residential/ Agricultural Character:  Workshops are being developed to encourage good land management for even one acre lots. There will be local experts, like beekeeper Walt Broughton, and applications that are working.  These will be scheduled for the Spring and early summer.

  •     Beekeeping Workshop- For aspiring beginners.  A  meeting will be by Walt Broughton of Swarmbustin Honey at 142 West London Grove Road (West of Chatham) On March 27th. This seminar will feature "A close up look at a bee hive & how you can get started" and will be free. Register with this seminar/lecture via Wick & Jen at wickwill@aol.com.
